Surprise! My hair is short! October 29, 2008

So this post took me a while to write because I think I’m still in denial.  I cut my hair a few weeks ago!!  I am “growing” to like it, but I kinda feel like it’s too short to be long and too long to be short so it does its own thing.  Here’s a picture and you can help me decide…

And here’s one so you can see how festive I am

I also don’t know if I ever mentioned that I ran the Park City Half Marathon in August.  It wasn’t my best half marathon by FAR, but I am glad that I did it!  It was pretty much uphill the first half and then a turn around with down hill the whole way back.  This was killer on my knees!  I loved doing it, but I still think my most amazing accomplishment EVER was the century bike ride I did this summer.  WoW!  Cecilie Was kind enough to come see me at the finish line.  Thanks for the support!  Also, if you look closely at my shirt you can see that it’s the one that I got for running the only marathon I’ve ever run!  And yes, if you are wondering, that IS what I am going to wear for Halloween (posing to be a “marathon runner”)!  By the way Jake, I loved your post about being a mommy blogger for Halloween!  So funny!  I wish I knew how to link stuff and I would let you read it…

Last item of business is I LOST MY PHONE!  It’s a little bit of a funny story.  I was borrowing a costume from an old roommate and had a lot of things in my hands as I was going out to the car.  I dropped my keys and they went under the car, so I knelt down to pick them up and set a few things down as I did so.  That’s the last time I ever remember seeing or holding my phone.  I know the ringer was on so I have called my phone in every room of the apartment and also in my car.  I’m pretty sure that by now it’s been smashed to smitherines in the middle of the road where I think I left it when I knelt to pick up my keys… good thing I was eledgible for an upgrade!  So needless to say it’s been a little bit of a pain to get phone numbers back in my phone so I can call you guys again!  I think I’m almost back to normal!

School has been so busy!  I am taking this teaching methods class where we learn a bunch of methods to teach and have to give presentations using the methods.  I have serious anxiety every time I have to do a presentation, I need to figure out what to do.  All the group projects I have had are pretty time consuming too (and money consuming)!  So needless to say, life has been busy!

I am little nervous as to what I will be doing after graduation.  We have an internship preparation class that gets me thinking about where to apply, and I have NO idea!  I’m thinking about a few places, Boston, PA, UNLV, AZ, who knows!?  Applications are due in February and I find out if I got in anywhere on April 19.  I’m a little nervous about doing an internship because it’s full time, unpaid, and I have to pay to be there.  Sound like I’ll be making money after graduation?  Most likely no…

On a different note, I was thinking about Halloween and what I’ll be doing to celebrate!  I was thinking about dressing up like I did a few years ago.  What do you guys think?

And here’s another one just to make you smile :)

a little more about protecting marriage and Prop 8 October 13, 2008

So I’m trying to get more involved with Prop 8, but since I’m in UT I am limited on what I can do.  Here is some information I gathered from the Superior Court of California on Prop 8:

“Proposition 8 is about preserving marriage; it’s not an attack on the gay lifestyle.  Proposition 8 doesn’t take away any rights or benefits of gay or lesbian domestic partnerships.  Under California law, “domestic partners shall have the same rights, protections and benefits” as married spouses.  (Family Code §297.5)  There are NO exceptions.  Proposition 8 WILL NOT change this.”

“The narrow decision of the California Supreme Court isn’t just about ‘live and let live.’  State law may require teachers to instruct children as young as kindergarteners about marriage.  (Education Code §51890.)  If the gay marriage ruling is not overturned, TEACHERS COULD BE REQUIRED to teach young children there is no difference between gay marriage and traditional marriage.”

“We should not accept a court decision that may result in public schools teaching our kids that gay marriage is okay.  That is an issue for parents to discuss with their children according to their own values and beliefs.  It shouldn’t be forced on us against our will.”

“Some will try to tell you that Proposition 8 takes away legal rights of gay domestic partnerships.  That is false.  Proposition 8 DOES NOT take away any of those rights and does not interfere with gays living the lifestyle they choose.”

If anyone is looking to vote by mail here is a link to get that going:

Protect marriage!! October 10, 2008

A little note from the living prophet and his counselors:
Preserving Traditional Marriage and Strengthening Families

In March 2000 California voters overwhelmingly approved a state law providing that “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” The California Supreme Court recently reversed this vote of the people. On November 4, 2 008, Californians will vote on a proposed amendment to the California state constitution that will now restore the March 2000 definition of marriage approved by the voters.

The Church’s teachings and position on this moral issue are unequivocal. Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God, and the formation of families is central to the Creator’s plan for His children. Children are entitled to be born within this bond of marriage.

A broad-based coalition of churches and other organizations placed the proposed amendment on the ballot. The Church will participate with this coalition in seeking its passage. Local Church leaders will provide information about how you may become involved in this important cause.

We ask that you do all you can to support the proposed constitutional amendment by donating of your means and time to assure that marriage in California is legally defined as being between a man and a woman. Our best efforts are required to preserve the sacred institution of marriage.
